Back home the nights are drawing in and old Jack Frost is fairly chomping at the bit to nip your nose soon enough – the perfect excuse then to cast your glance further afield to warmer climes and get set to embrace the great outdoors with a Club Med nature holiday.
Whether you have your heart set on pristine tropical beaches or mountain backdrops to inspire your jaw to drop in awe, rest assured that Club Med has it covered.
Eco Nature Resorts
Club Med now has two official Eco Nature Resorts in its portfolio. The first to be established was Cherating Beach in Malaysia, which has a Green Globe certificate for Sustainable Tourism, and is home to a historical village and turtle sanctuary.
Cherating Beach is perched on the eastern coast of Malaysia, some 50 miles north of Kuantan, like some vision of a tropical Garden of Eden, made real.
The pace of life in this 80-hectare resort on the South China Sea, with its stilted bungalows and 4 kilometres of fine, sandy beaches is dictated by the movements of pig-tailed macaque monkeys, gibbons, monitor lizards, rare birds and multi-coloured butterflies among the lush vegetation. You can reach its desert island beaches and tropical foliage on a catamaran, or keep a watchful eye on your children frolicking about the Jungle treetop circuit.
Our second Eco Nature resort has even stronger green credentials. Rio des Padras is set in Brazil’s second biggest nature reserve, the Mata Atlantica – a forest which boasts the world’s highest number of species, including some 25,000 trees alone. Ornamental pools are dotted around the gardens brimming with bougainvillea, hibiscus, and fruit trees such as banana, lemon and pitanga. Colonial style bungalows blend in perfectly with this stunning natural environment, with a seafront swimming pool to laze around after a hard day’s water-skiing or sightseeing in nearby Rio or amid the coffee farms of the Do Paraiba Valley.
If you’re not one to laze around in the sun, don’t worry, we have some spectacular ski resorts to set your heart racing too. At our Chamonix Mont Blanc resort you can carve out a route from the halcyon days of ski holidays, sliding from over a kilometre above sea level under the shadow of the mighty Mont Blanc, before submitting to the cosy confines of the former Hotel Savoy, renovated by Jacques Garcia, famed for his lavish Parisian interiors, including the Montparnasse Tower.
But remember the mountains are for life, not just for Christmas! Make a note to return come summertime, take a hike with our Walking and Hiking Academies or try some Nordic Walking to get the blood pumping at Valmorel or Peisey-Vallandry, two of our family-friendly resorts in the French Alps.
Either way, for those with a yen to get out there and fill their lungs with some fresh air while going easy with that carbon footprint, a Club Med holiday is the natural choice.
