Malaysia is a magnificent country full of sights and sounds found nowhere else. From breath-taking beaches and wonderful wildlife, to cultural delights and a bustling capital city, there are unique experiences available to everyone in this one-of-a-kind destination.

Here are ten of the very best unmissable sights that Malaysia has to offer.

1. Pantai beach

Just a short, scenic walk through the jungle from our Cherating Beach resort, Pantai beach is an enchanting slice of paradise. All sumptuous sand and azure blue waters bordered by swathes of lush greenery, it’s the perfect place to lie back and relax or test out your snorkel.

2. The jungles of Borneo

The jungles of Malaysian Borneo are home to one of our best-loved mammals – the orangutan. Whether they are swinging from towering tree to towering tree or sheltering from the rain, they are a magical sight you will treasure forever. Elsewhere among the foliage you may spot fascinating insects, beautiful birds and exotic flora, and maybe even an elephant!

3. The Petronas Towers

Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, is home to the world’s second tallest building – the Petronas Towers. The impressive structure dazzles passers-by by night, and offers an altogether different experience by day – a 41 seconds-short lift ride to the skybridge connecting the two towers. You’ll feel on top of the world.

4. Pasar Malam

Pasar Malam is a traditional Malaysian night market alive with rich colours, exotic flavours and intoxicating fragrances. Spices, incense, local cuisine and traditional crafts are just some of the treasures waiting to be uncovered, while if you visit the Pasar Malam on an excursion from Cherating Beach, you can even experience a Chinese shampoo and massage.

5. Resort-dwelling wildlife

The jungles of Borneo aren’t the only Malaysian must-see that’s brimming with wildlife, our eighty hectare Cherating Beach resort is too. So well-preserved is the forest surrounding the resort that macaques, gibbons, monitor lizards, rare birds and multi-coloured butterflies can be found right on your doorstep. Keep your eyes peeled!

6. Mount Kinabalu

Mount Kinabalu is Malaysia’s highest mountain, which makes it a stunning site in itself. What makes it even more unmissable, however, is the sunrise that can be viewed from its lofty heights. UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kinabalu Park, stretches out below, tinted red by the approaching sun, while the nearby Poring hot springs wait to refresh you after your triumphant descent.

7. Underwater Sabah

Malaysia overflows with captivating underwater worlds, but those surrounding Sipadan Island in Sabah are really something to behold. Being located in the middle of the world’s largest marine habitat means that prime dive spots are bountiful, including the Drop Off – a sudden 600m drop at the edge of previously knee-high waters.

8. Kek Lok Si Temple

Kek Lok Si Temple isn’t just one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia, it’s also one of the most beautiful. Located in Penang, the temple’s architecture blends influences from both Malaysian and Chinese culture, with images of Buddha and Chinese gods recurring throughout the many rooms. Intricate woodwork adorns the interior, illuminated by lanterns – it’s a charming, peaceful place.

9. The Cameron Highlands

Benefitting from balmier temperatures than much of Malaysia, as well as a cooling breeze, the Cameron Highlands are the perfect place to explore this country’s wilder side in comfort. Brimming with strawberry orchards, fragrant tea plantations, bee farms, butterfly gardens and a seriously stunning backdrop, it’s hard not to lose your heart to this lush green paradise.

10. Lake Chini

Lake Chini is a huge expanse of water shrouded in mystery and legend. It’s said that a dragon named Naga Seri Gumum dwells beneath, alongside the ancient sunken city of Khmer. Between August and September, the lake transforms into a floating garden adorned with thousands of rosy pink and pure white lotus flowers.

Malaysia is like another world. It brims with natural wonders, iconic wildlife and vibrant communities – captivating visitors at every turn. What’s more, you can easily experience the magic of this tropical haven yourself with a little help from Club Med. So go on, spread your wings!
